Plan A Architects have obtained planning permission (July 2013) for a rear extension and attic conversion to this semi-detached Victorian house in Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire.

The proposed single-storey rear extension will be built across the full width of property and will provide the family with an open plan living area with bi-folding doors opening out to the rear garden. Large double-glazed rooflights will allow as much natural daylight as possible into the new extension, creating a bright, open and welcoming space.

A new staircase will be built to access the attic which will be converted into an additional bedroom and also extended by a new dormer window overlooking the rear garden. The space available in the attic will be maximised by building a gable wall to replace the existing hipped roof. It will also be necessary to build a party wall within the attic to separate the property from its neighbour.
